Crowns and bridges
Dental crowns and bridges in Kolhapur
A crown covers a damaged tooth to restore shape and strength. A bridge replaces a missing tooth by anchoring to teeth beside the gap. Both are established restorative treatments at the clinic, including when a tooth has had root canal treatment.
Crowns
A crown is considered when a tooth is cracked, heavily filled, or too weak for a filling alone. The tooth is shaped, a record is taken, and a crown is fitted later, often with a temporary crown in between. The material is chosen for the tooth’s position and your bite. The clinic will name the material being proposed rather than using a brand as a promise.
Bridges
A conventional bridge uses the teeth on either side of a gap. Those teeth are prepared even if they were healthy. That is the main trade-off against an implant, which usually leaves neighbouring teeth untouched. A bridge can be the better choice when those teeth already need crowns.
What can go wrong
Crowns and bridges can chip, come loose, or leak if decay starts at the edge. The nerve of a prepared tooth can become inflamed and later need root canal treatment. A bridge fails if one supporting tooth fails. Cleaning under a bridge needs floss threaders or a similar aid.
After the fit
Bite adjustments are normal in the first weeks. The gumline can need a day or two to settle. If the crown feels high, call rather than “getting used to it”, because a high bite can bruise the ligament of the tooth.
Questions patients ask
Are zirconia crowns available?
The material for your crown is chosen at the consultation. If a zirconia or another ceramic crown is suitable, the clinic will say so in the plan. Do not assume every tooth should have the same material.
How long does a crown last?
Many crowns last for years if the edge stays clean and the bite is favourable. Grinding, new decay, and gum recession shorten that. There is no fixed expiry date the clinic can honestly publish.
